Assign to bug in oppurtunities

in the Opportunities tab when i assign an opportunity to someone else and save it doesn't reflect the changes.
checked if assigning a lead to someone else is working fine. it is. problem seems to be only with assigning the opportunity to someone else

i was checking the code for the error. apparently data(who the opportunity is assigned to) is being saved properly. In the View Assigned to select box the option with the assigned user's full name is not getting selected because of which the defauly "Myself" is being selected all time
